As part of the collateral range, I've created business cards and ID cards, which will later be placed in lanyards. I wanted to use a luxe method when making the business cards. To do this, I purchased some yellow card, best matching my colour scheme as I could, and stuck two sheets of them in between each side of the business cards. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BMCB6P9_WcQ/U3pgOIadWLI/AAAAAAAAFbc/IGstQDb92D0/s1600/IMG_0562.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BMCB6P9_WcQ/U3pgOIadWLI/AAAAAAAAFbc/IGstQDb92D0/s1600/IMG_0562.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Above is how four of them, stacked, look. The luxe business card effect has been created as the thickness and appearance of the business card has a feeling of quality to it, almost like they have been edge painted. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nnr1dwXvhSs/U3pgPNi4RCI/AAAAAAAAFbo/-m_2m61n4d4/s1600/IMG_0563.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nnr1dwXvhSs/U3pgPNi4RCI/AAAAAAAAFbo/-m_2m61n4d4/s1600/IMG_0563.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the left, is the business card, creating using the order system established in the brand guidelines, open sans bold has been used for the header fond, and open sans regular for the information/body. The ID badge adopts the same method. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u310Rc1ZBq4/U3pgOw80GZI/AAAAAAAAFbg/4iMWZII15gs/s1600/IMG_0564.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-u310Rc1ZBq4/U3pgOw80GZI/AAAAAAAAFbg/4iMWZII15gs/s1600/IMG_0564.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8234484332481685766.post-41194158654159597232014-05-19T11:59:00.000-07:002014-05-19T11:59:38.435-07:00OUGD505: STUDIO BRIEF 2 - An Exhibition Of // Bottle Labels <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today, I was able to print the bottle labels for the shampoo and body wash bottles, which are pictured in a previous post. The bottles are to be a part of the hospitality package, in which the attendees of the event can use at their leisure during their stay at AML2014. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BlaCF2HD4Zk/U3owytUCOVI/AAAAAAAAFaI/gqgIJ0y7qqQ/s1600/IMG_0561.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BlaCF2HD4Zk/U3owytUCOVI/AAAAAAAAFaI/gqgIJ0y7qqQ/s1600/IMG_0561.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When mounting the labels on to the bottles, I had to assure they aligned properly, I did so using the grid system on a cutting mat, and a ruler to guide the bottle, as it rolled it over the sticker. The overall result is very pleasing. The colour schemes fit within the brand guidelines, and take pride of place within the rest of the brand collateral. </div>
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8234484332481685766.post-33735416587366193902014-05-19T10:08:00.000-07:002014-05-19T10:08:05.158-07:00OUGD505: STUDIO BRIEF 2 - An Exhibition of // Proposing Accommodation<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A huge part of the exhibition is the accommodation, where the VIP guests will stay, as the standard class tickets are required to bring their own tents. I wanted to use the concept of glamping, luxury teepees which are furnished with raised beds and running water. Taking the uncomfortable nature out of camping. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To do so, I searched for a stock photo of some teepees, a photo which was larger than 2000px wide, at a high resolution, to ease the editing process. And so when the image is produced in printed format, it retains a high, crisp, quality. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IGZePWzqyIM/U3o1HTMLOQI/AAAAAAAAFak/7C9wcq9Tx4E/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.42.30.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IGZePWzqyIM/U3o1HTMLOQI/AAAAAAAAFak/7C9wcq9Tx4E/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.42.30.png" height="293" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The photo depicts a range of teepees, however the image itself isn't very attractive, and it doesn't feel like it's part of my brand. Taking the image into photoshop to modify it's appearance to suit the needs of the project to a better extend. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nx--0Rq7IOg/U3o071UGIJI/AAAAAAAAFaU/hGfo76ovhzA/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.42.44.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nx--0Rq7IOg/U3o071UGIJI/AAAAAAAAFaU/hGfo76ovhzA/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.42.44.png" height="120" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I began by altering the skyline behind the focus of the image. It looked grey and dull, so I decided to replace it, for a more appealing look. I selected the foreground using the magic wand tool, following by the refine edge tool, to assure an accurate selection. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Using a layer mask over the selection, which turns all the areas in black into an alpha channel. The alpha channel then reveals the image below, the sky. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4zO-yIyBIbU/U3o1HzCWUWI/AAAAAAAAFao/F2RUeZQ7jzM/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.42.50.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4zO-yIyBIbU/U3o1HzCWUWI/AAAAAAAAFao/F2RUeZQ7jzM/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.42.50.png" height="267" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-btFGMZ7g0Kw/U3o094VovGI/AAAAAAAAFac/hbkE56ictlE/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.42.59.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-btFGMZ7g0Kw/U3o094VovGI/AAAAAAAAFac/hbkE56ictlE/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.42.59.png" height="257" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then wanted to alter the colours of the tents, so they fit within the colour scheme of the event. Doing this will aid in the association of the brand. I once used the colour range tool in photoshop to select all the rends and all the greens and blue individually, to edit their hue and saturation, pushing them towards the brand colours. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IESdVqRboJs/U3o1J3vvrCI/AAAAAAAAFa8/2pk8mi9_kA0/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.43.08.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IESdVqRboJs/U3o1J3vvrCI/AAAAAAAAFa8/2pk8mi9_kA0/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.43.08.png" height="261" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8FqSfcO-BvM/U3o1JehkIgI/AAAAAAAAFa0/1uXjDAUfgSw/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.43.43.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8FqSfcO-BvM/U3o1JehkIgI/AAAAAAAAFa0/1uXjDAUfgSw/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.43.43.png" height="293" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then wanted to add a yellow banner around the side of the teepees to further enforce the brand within the teepees. On which I could place the logo. I did so by painting the yellow on the side of the tent, then applying the multiple blending mode over the top. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cmFFlawvUsA/U3o1R8Vn59I/AAAAAAAAFbE/9gY9vymlh5c/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.43.51.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cmFFlawvUsA/U3o1R8Vn59I/AAAAAAAAFbE/9gY9vymlh5c/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-19+at+17.43.51.png" height="303" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally adding the logo, to solidify the teepee's place within the AML2014 brand. </div>

After mocking up the label for the bottles out of layout pad paper, to check the fit and the dimensions of the bottles, so I could create the design for it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LGabbStSCNg/U3ipG92keiI/AAAAAAAAFXs/tfdf7OvEUks/s1600/IMG_0559.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LGabbStSCNg/U3ipG92keiI/AAAAAAAAFXs/tfdf7OvEUks/s1600/IMG_0559.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I sketched out some quick thumbnail sketches of how the design for the bottle might look, splitting the label into thirds, the middle of which will be the front, which will house the logo and the product name. The other two sides will be assigned to information. The thumbnail sketches are mostly the same, only really playing with the justification of type and image, as the brand guidelines dictate how the majority of the information will be set out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Mnn0CRcNZXI/U3ivPGPPUGI/AAAAAAAAFX4/QD7A5mrdg3g/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-18+at+14.00.41.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Mnn0CRcNZXI/U3ivPGPPUGI/AAAAAAAAFX4/QD7A5mrdg3g/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-18+at+14.00.41.png" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As the bottles are a very dark colour, almost black, but a deep orange in the light, like a medicine bottle, so I decided to invert the colour scheme, so it clashes with the bottle, still remaining within the terms of the brand guidelines. As the colour scheme is incredibly light, I've opted for the alternative logo, which used the off black as the fill, instead of the yellow. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u7ispxHBVVc/U3i0v2rWIXI/AAAAAAAAFYE/mjYdDcOcNvA/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-18+at+14.16.59.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u7ispxHBVVc/U3i0v2rWIXI/AAAAAAAAFYE/mjYdDcOcNvA/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-18+at+14.16.59.png" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then added the product ingredients, to the right of the main section. Adding ingredients to cosmetic products is essential, due to various skin conditions and allergies. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JZcPKe8JyV8/U3i3kz0QPoI/AAAAAAAAFYQ/9yBXX3q7gmY/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-18+at+14.32.20.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JZcPKe8JyV8/U3i3kz0QPoI/AAAAAAAAFYQ/9yBXX3q7gmY/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-18+at+14.32.20.png" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally adding the product information, contents' size, in millimetres, 118ml, in this case. All of which is in the font for the brand, open sans, using bold for the 'BODY WASH' title, and semibold for the subtitle and 'compliments of AML2014'. The information and ingredients are in the regular weight. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Shampoo variation, which looks identical, so the products work as a set. </div>

As part of the hospitality aspect of the branding, I want to create a small range of 'cosmetics', and propose the means of hospitality. Doing this will create some substance to the brand, as the majority of the branding is quite flat, tickets, wristbands and what-not, some 3D elements will really help the impact of the branding. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BqeyLmIUTWA/U3fP03_uXxI/AAAAAAAAFVM/4MAswtUAfXU/s1600/IMG_0555.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BqeyLmIUTWA/U3fP03_uXxI/AAAAAAAAFVM/4MAswtUAfXU/s1600/IMG_0555.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wanted to create some 'travel' shampoo and body wash bottles, something you get when you spend a night in a hotel, for example. My research shows some small bottles, often plastic or glass. When I was doing my weekly shop, some vanilla extract bottles caught my eye, and I thought they would work nicely for the shampoo and body wash bottles. They stand, from base to cap, 120mm high, and have a diameter of 48mm. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If my GCSE maths serves me well enough, the circumference of the bottle should be the diameter multiplied by π. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
π x 48 = 150.8 (to the nearest decimal place). I'll call it 151mm. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OseQhFPibow/U3iK34VFlUI/AAAAAAAAFXI/5aLftneStX4/s1600/IMG_0556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OseQhFPibow/U3iK34VFlUI/AAAAAAAAFXI/5aLftneStX4/s1600/IMG_0556.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Whilst I was doing my mathematics, I let the bottle stand in warm water, so the labels were easy to remove. Above, pictured, are the bottles without their labels. Doing this will allow me to apply my own branding to the now shampoo and body wash bottles. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_6BNRX3yXxk/U3iQLw3cfuI/AAAAAAAAFXY/jj0kILXSF0k/s1600/IMG_0557.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_6BNRX3yXxk/U3iQLw3cfuI/AAAAAAAAFXY/jj0kILXSF0k/s1600/IMG_0557.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jp5duWLv3-Y/U3iQLbgigMI/AAAAAAAAFXU/x4AT5EGr15U/s1600/IMG_0558.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jp5duWLv3-Y/U3iQLbgigMI/AAAAAAAAFXU/x4AT5EGr15U/s1600/IMG_0558.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I threw together a quick sleeve using the dimensions I'd calculated. I made the placeholder sleeve 151 x 50 mm, and placed it on the bottle, using an elastic band to hold in on there, so not to damage the bottle. Doing this allows me to get an idea of how the sleeve will fit onto the final bottle. You can see there is about a 1mm gap in the sleeve, but I think this works, and I've seen a vast amount of other packaging which does this. I will transfer these dimensions to Adobe Illustrator, to create the final design. </div>

As part of the event collateral, I want to create some badges for the members of staff within the event. Using the brand guidelines as the basis for the design, and the AML2014 colour scheme to determine the colours. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aQL-Th3r58Y/U3epLhvof6I/AAAAAAAAFUo/FQWGvhoYBSI/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+11.19.39.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aQL-Th3r58Y/U3epLhvof6I/AAAAAAAAFUo/FQWGvhoYBSI/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+11.19.39.png" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In InDesign, I created a grid system on a 85x55mm art board, with a 3mm bleed. I've used 85x55mm as that's the standard card size which fits in a lanyard card holder. I've set the margins for this document to 5mm around all the edges, as the clip with holds the card in place, in the card holder, overlaps the card slightly.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tmJipc3W79o/U3epLZD-pzI/AAAAAAAAFUk/yz1jNPoZ0Vc/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+14.47.34.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tmJipc3W79o/U3epLZD-pzI/AAAAAAAAFUk/yz1jNPoZ0Vc/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+14.47.34.png" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The staff card needed a placeholder image, just to show how the card would function, and it adds some life to it. So I've decided to use Ben Affleck, because he's Batman. In photoshop I altered an image of him so he fits in the themes of the event better. I sampled the event logo's yellow in photoshop, and then applied it to Affleck's shirt. Also adding the logos in the background of the image, which makes him appear to be standing in front of a banner, advertising the event. I applied a gaussian blur to the logos to fake a depth of field. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ilVZIPrnDkY/U3epJPMnFkI/AAAAAAAAFUc/rQz_FYU2lRY/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+14.47.39.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ilVZIPrnDkY/U3epJPMnFkI/AAAAAAAAFUc/rQz_FYU2lRY/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+14.47.39.png" height="285" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I assured the logo is larger than 10mm, as the brand guidelines stress, it is centred to the top of the page, as the logo composition state by the brand guidelines is that it should be centred at the top of the page, which 5mm between that and the edge of the page, minimum. I've put the image of Mr. Affleck to the left of the page, as seen on the majority of all ID cards, according to my primary and secondary research. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YSfCNumU28w/U3epLiellnI/AAAAAAAAFUs/6JVKpMCEJ5I/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+19.22.31.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YSfCNumU28w/U3epLiellnI/AAAAAAAAFUs/6JVKpMCEJ5I/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+19.22.31.png" height="232" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've then included the information on the ID card. It uses the fonts required in the brand guidelines, open sans bold for the headings, in this case 'AML2014 _ STAFF', using the two tone colour scheme of yellow and off-white. Underneath which, the name, position and number of the staff member. Using the yellow to pick out the staff member's name. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1FcOpD2vMmM/U3epUBd6AfI/AAAAAAAAFU8/svedGtdrEQQ/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+19.24.02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1FcOpD2vMmM/U3epUBd6AfI/AAAAAAAAFU8/svedGtdrEQQ/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-17+at+19.24.02.png" height="270" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see how the card aligns to the grid system, the gutters in the grid system are 5mm, so by placing the logo between the gutters, it allows the 5mm padding all around, as specified by the brand guidelines. The type fits between the grid system really well, even though I wasn't using the grids to alter the leading, that's just a coincidence. Having 5mm gutter between the image and the type, and between the type and the logo allows for a visually satisfying appearance, for the OCD designers. </div>

I decided to produce some physical posters, no bigger than A3 to see how they looked printed out. I decided to print them on gloss/satin paper, at 130 gsm to get the luxurious poster feel you get when you purchase a new poster. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was able to print them full bleed on a roll, which saved me sizing them up to A2 in order to get the correct size, more money for other prints.. I had to measure 3mm from each edge, to get the required bleed, so the posters size to A3. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The final posters came out really nicely, I plan to put them up in various places and get some photographs of them, to see how they look in the environment to which they're intended. </div>

To advertise the exhibition, I've quickly produced a small range of posters, using the brand guidelines as the rules for the layout and typography. The colour system which used has been adopted from the colour palette selected. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LRI5CnfzK8Q/U3HQX3UKFnI/AAAAAAAAFPI/3i8MfQhWuck/s1600/Exhibition+Poster+2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LRI5CnfzK8Q/U3HQX3UKFnI/AAAAAAAAFPI/3i8MfQhWuck/s1600/Exhibition+Poster+2.png" height="282" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The images have been created using a duo tone image, using the off white and the deep dark blue. Using these two colours in unison creates a very bold atmospheric image, strong and powerful. I did this to convey the emotions and feelings associated with the cars, supposedly. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SsUPzGn2QNI/U3HQ5ojcIDI/AAAAAAAAFPY/-rifeUfmRyI/s1600/Exhibition+Poster+1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SsUPzGn2QNI/U3HQ5ojcIDI/AAAAAAAAFPY/-rifeUfmRyI/s1600/Exhibition+Poster+1.png" height="282" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The images all contains Aston Martins in motion, with the background blurred, out of focus. Partly as the focus is the car, and partly due to the speed and power of the car. The off white and yellow type really stands out against the image, with a strong contrast of hue, saturation and tone. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-maDO2lg3-cQ/U3HQlytjM6I/AAAAAAAAFPQ/LMLLJ7h0USw/s1600/Aston+Martin+Poster.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-maDO2lg3-cQ/U3HQlytjM6I/AAAAAAAAFPQ/LMLLJ7h0USw/s1600/Aston+Martin+Poster.jpg" height="316" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've also mocked up how I plan to exhibit the posters, for example, hanging them from buildings. This will be done in small cities and towns. My research shows that the vast majority of Aston Martin owners do not live in major cities, due to their income not being high enough to afford city rent, or even the cars. </div>

Doing this will allow me to create brand specific design, which will work together as a whole, using the same uniform design scheme.

Upon reflection, looking again at the logo. I thought it might look better with a stroke filling the headlights. Receiving further feedback from peers, they agreed an outline would benefit the design. Just so the design really reflects the car.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think the logo looks much better now with the stroke, and due to time constraints, I won't have time for any further modifications, so I believe this is the final logo for the festival. </div>

<b>Planning the Logo</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the hypothetical event I'm proposing for this brief, I've begun to work on creating a logo. I've decided, after research, not to use Aston Martin's official logo, as it doesn't really fit with the dynamic of the event. The event is aimed at Aston Martin fanatics, rather than Aston Martin owners/potential customers. So, a new, perhaps more modern logo will be created. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-apaLpOgyYBo/U2toMDw7yjI/AAAAAAAAFJM/hVAgX0tgbtY/s1600/IMG_0530.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-apaLpOgyYBo/U2toMDw7yjI/AAAAAAAAFJM/hVAgX0tgbtY/s1600/IMG_0530.JPG" height="283" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I sketched out some ideas of what I could have as a logo. I really thought the logos with the cars in them worked better than the logos with the tracks in, unless you're familiar with race tracks, the logo just looks like a weird shape. The cars are after all what the event is all about, so it seems fitting that they become the core of the logo. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Developing the Logo</b></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X3naa2NZ7Zo/U2toQlbtChI/AAAAAAAAFJU/9oPB614u1So/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.04.48.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X3naa2NZ7Zo/U2toQlbtChI/AAAAAAAAFJU/9oPB614u1So/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.04.48.png" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Following my research, I was able to see how the fibonacci system was implemented into various logo designs, developing a golden ratio within the elements of the design. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GcvNod6hX9E/U2toQ1Q6-JI/AAAAAAAAFJY/Z-BvAqIoeLE/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.13.56.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GcvNod6hX9E/U2toQ1Q6-JI/AAAAAAAAFJY/Z-BvAqIoeLE/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.13.56.png" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For each section of the golden ratio, I created a circle, I've seen numerous designers use this technique within their work, so I decided to apply this method to my own. I will use these circles to construct the logo. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pJDNbnMTK8Q/U2tv3Cx-ovI/AAAAAAAAFJ4/O1TIE9ShOSs/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.30.59.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pJDNbnMTK8Q/U2tv3Cx-ovI/AAAAAAAAFJ4/O1TIE9ShOSs/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.30.59.png" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The above is the application to the grid, I added guides around the edge of the image I want to re-create, using the fibonacci system. I also added diagonal guides across the centre of the image, as I thought this would benefit me. I assured the largest circle fitted the car from end to end, enlarging all the smaller subsequent circles along side this, so they were all in proportion. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-siHbbX1xp00/U2tv3dnCSZI/AAAAAAAAFJ8/xyewm98In88/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.34.42.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-siHbbX1xp00/U2tv3dnCSZI/AAAAAAAAFJ8/xyewm98In88/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.34.42.png" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Using the points of contact between the largest circle and the guides, I began to construct the car using the circles or various sizes. I implemented the circles using the grid and the existing circles, so the circles weren't placed solely based on the image below, to assure a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-adzYgihaE-k/U2tvwtFB53I/AAAAAAAAFJs/RSmX9D6Q8Qs/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.39.55.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-adzYgihaE-k/U2tvwtFB53I/AAAAAAAAFJs/RSmX9D6Q8Qs/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.39.55.png" height="145" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As I progressed, I had to colour code the circles, so I was able to identify which parts of the golden ratio have been used for each bit. Just to avoid confusion. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aAfzOJQf8bg/U2tv3eW2r0I/AAAAAAAAFJ0/ZFN2ToYhY-I/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.40.07.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aAfzOJQf8bg/U2tv3eW2r0I/AAAAAAAAFJ0/ZFN2ToYhY-I/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.40.07.png" height="296" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The near final grid system applied over the image. As you'll see later on, I had to add a couple more circles to the design, to incorporate more features into the design. The grid system overlaps the car well, and it does hold the mail features of the car's shape, which will make it recognisable upon completion. Which was the overall goal. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c7duk-pXMf4/U2tv4dq6lcI/AAAAAAAAFKE/fTUaH5KGzdU/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.40.17.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-c7duk-pXMf4/U2tv4dq6lcI/AAAAAAAAFKE/fTUaH5KGzdU/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.40.17.png" height="291" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see the gird system without the car in the background. it looks quite complete and interesting. Interesting as I've not used the fibonacci system before.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9cuWGpSOfQE/U2tv4nIzjTI/AAAAAAAAFKM/7_UqsYAIi0Y/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.44.08.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9cuWGpSOfQE/U2tv4nIzjTI/AAAAAAAAFKM/7_UqsYAIi0Y/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.44.08.png" height="208" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I went around the edges of the shapes with the pen tool, to obtain the basic outline of the car. Doing this using the Fibonacci ratio assures the basic dimensions of the shapes all work together, rather than just outlining the car without the grid. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This method is more time consuming, but it also allows the basic shape of an Aston Martin, rather than a particular model. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0JmMzQVn1AA/U2tv5ACYYBI/AAAAAAAAFKQ/L3fhCAa17vk/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.50.29.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0JmMzQVn1AA/U2tv5ACYYBI/AAAAAAAAFKQ/L3fhCAa17vk/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.50.29.png" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then traced out the negative, using the circles, I've traced out the negative as it represents the front and rear windows of the car, as well as the roof, as it's often a carb finish, which contrasts with the body work of the car. Doing so would also leave me space for the type. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ql1wBAWkb6M/U2txViFNmtI/AAAAAAAAFKo/CiZDwXzDje8/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.58.02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ql1wBAWkb6M/U2txViFNmtI/AAAAAAAAFKo/CiZDwXzDje8/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+12.58.02.png" height="242" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The final car without the gird system. I added in the headlights on the front of the car, just to add some small detail, to assure the audience that it is in fact a car. I added two more of the purple circles to create this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1ZjN5xdzS5Y/U2tzrQGqI1I/AAAAAAAAFK0/chC3PMmNJ_c/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+13.08.02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1ZjN5xdzS5Y/U2tzrQGqI1I/AAAAAAAAFK0/chC3PMmNJ_c/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+13.08.02.png" height="256" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Following a discussing with Adam, going through that I had already created, we thought it would benefit the design to add the wing mirrors to the car, the small bit of detail really pulls the whole design together, and there is no doubt that it is in fact a car. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5OKwpvmJa7Q/U2t48fAI3oI/AAAAAAAAFLI/wGzaixJRcSE/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+13.30.12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5OKwpvmJa7Q/U2t48fAI3oI/AAAAAAAAFLI/wGzaixJRcSE/s1600/Screen+Shot+2014-05-08+at+13.30.12.png" height="216" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used the circles once again to plot out the spacing for the type. Using the centre point of the shapes and the initial grid system to plan the spacing. I then used my selected font, Nevis Bold, to plot out the type. The type would distort if I were to stretch it to fit, so I used a underline to fill the space. Doing this helps create equal spacing throughout the logo. </div>

I've begun to flesh out a new concept, following a small critique I took part in with a few members of the group - which I'll explain here. I presented the ideas displayed in previous posts, also mentioning I had context but no content to the idea. Which didn't make it very feasible.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Instead taking a product and re-marketing it based on the themes and ideas of consumerism. For example, re-packaging a fragrance. The fragrance is something which receives heavy treatment from consumeristic tendencies, the majority of ads for fragrances offer celebrity endorsements and other means of manipulation through association. The fragrance is marketed to be the tool which transforms the consumer into the celebrity endorsing the product. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I mapped out ways which I could rebrand a product to follow the consumeristic tendencies, I also discussed the types of products which I could re-market. So I have an idea of what I'll want to create. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I felt like repackaging a fragrance would be the way to go with this project, as fragrances are all but scents, nothing major. The fragrance I would package would just be water in a glass (or plastic) spray bottle. The packaging and promotion would be where I implement the themes of consumerism. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The plan is to create packaging which has been designed to make itself look larger than it actually is. Almost like a penis extension, against the other products. Like size matters. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6AeuIht9NE1DIOkEQ6Pzwko_gA-vJ8xOq6ZI-xZwjA7mqedgb2EivLeaWBDfT63IJ-Z8kos3E3htw9foqyCDrStWET9M9VoXo1fmqt-YBZ9JL0JAAfQDPFD32tR3mLpF7B8Hgg6a2Ztk/s1600/IMG_0487.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6AeuIht9NE1DIOkEQ6Pzwko_gA-vJ8xOq6ZI-xZwjA7mqedgb2EivLeaWBDfT63IJ-Z8kos3E3htw9foqyCDrStWET9M9VoXo1fmqt-YBZ9JL0JAAfQDPFD32tR3mLpF7B8Hgg6a2Ztk/s1600/IMG_0487.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The sketch above shows how the packaging would work, leaving space about the product, which isn't needed, only to make the product appear larger than it actually his, in hope that this would translate to the consumer's mind that the product would have similar effects to their 'manhood'. Amongst the other products. Size matters. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then mocked up how I might like the packaging to look, so I know if it would be feasible to create when printing. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLlmNfsaImS5xWZQuho2YG-szoyt7g2Dn4S7qf-n9tfqIDUEAE6Pbw_youlwmAzMdeKKfPmZhARHjjDUeoUHggESZhGfueMOOahcAJbKV5lL29aT4lzrMAwcwzFuyee-6jCWvE50rSncY/s1600/IMG_0486.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLlmNfsaImS5xWZQuho2YG-szoyt7g2Dn4S7qf-n9tfqIDUEAE6Pbw_youlwmAzMdeKKfPmZhARHjjDUeoUHggESZhGfueMOOahcAJbKV5lL29aT4lzrMAwcwzFuyee-6jCWvE50rSncY/s1600/IMG_0486.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>

I sketched out a net, based on some initial research I had previous undertaken, I would say this is the most basic of nets. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I adapted the top half so it was 2mm wider, in every direction, that the lower half, so the two sides slide seamlessly together, without issue. The flimsy material which I mocked it up from compromised the design and manufacture of the packaging, but the real version will be printed on thicker stock, and perhaps even reinforced with mount board, or similar. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The twos sides, which have been separated, they are of equal length, but the stopper in the top half prevents them from closing fully. </div>

We had a studio session with Lorraine today, covering some quick exercises to improve our approach to studio brief 2. To begin with, we were asked to write a list of somethings we were unsure of, within this project. Questions we wanted to ask about our briefs, things we needed to know to help us progress forward. I wrote the following;</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Is the scale, and the amount of collateral I want to produce too much or too little?</li>
<li>Photography of illustration? For the tickets, brochures and other Aton Martin event collateral. </li>
<li>Roman of Gothic fonts for the typography? I'm not sure if I should use a traditional Roman serif font, to keep the 'English Heritage' aspect of Aston Martin, or use a modern Gothic font, something like Helvetica, but not Helvetica, probably Open Sans, to bring the brand into 2014, as the company is 101 years old, the technology has moved with the time, is it time to modernise the type?</li>
<li>I'm unsure of the logo to use. Keep the existing logo for Aston Martin or create a new one specifically for the event? Or should I perhaps use a combination of the two?</li>
</ul>
<div>
Questions others in the group asked (which I think would be useful to me);</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Is my target audience refined to it's full extent? As in, is it specific enough? or is it too specific for it's context?</li>
<li>What should be my final full range of products? It's important to know this, so you know exactly what you need to create, perhaps planning and rewriting the brief, so you know exactly what you need, would be the way to achieve this.</li>
<li>What stock should I use? </li>
<li>What colour scheme would be appropriate? Research into your audience/content to find which colours work the best for your brief.</li>
<li>Is all the collateral 100% essential? Figure out what you can do in the realms of possibility. </li>
</ul>
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nXsffU_3X38/U2DW9gu3JiI/AAAAAAAAE9s/j7GEsztcw68/s1600/IMG_0480.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nXsffU_3X38/U2DW9gu3JiI/AAAAAAAAE9s/j7GEsztcw68/s1600/IMG_0480.JPG" height="400" width="283" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We were then asked to get our briefs for this project, which we had written ourselves, and underline the words which were important to the brief, as seen in red above, and the words which were 'fluffy', undefined and unnecessary, words which didn't really have direction.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What's important about this brief?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>101 years of Aston Martin, sophisticated design and engineering. Celebrating the company.</li>
<li>The audience primarily consists of 18-25 year old, males. Often with familes, from upper middle class backgrounds. </li>
<li>Educational, tasteful tone of voice.</li>
<li>The scale and location of the event.</li>
<li>Branding and Promotion.</li>
</ul>
<div>
The penultimate thing we were asked to list was some things we wanted to learn in our final three weeks here in second year. This would form a to-do list of things we need to do before we leave. Something to push for in this project. I listed the following;</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Make some packaging from scratch which looks decent and works, performing it's intended function. Serving a purpose.</li>
<li>Use a larger range of colours within a project. Too often I'm working with one or two colours and stock, studio brief 1 for example. I want to see how I work with a larger colour scheme, to see how it benefits the design of the event. As an underline part of the audience is families. </li>
<li>Experiment with 4D design, time based design, perhaps as part of the promotion within the project, something to attract members of the public to attend the event I will be proposing.</li>
<li>Use design boards more effectively. Critiques for design boards are essential, and they are the, usually, the only thing the client or competition judges will see, so they have to be impactful and work to communicate the concept, whilst also looking good.</li>
<li>Time management. Being able to balance the time I have, assuring all the work get's done on time. Even taking time out to relax, some down time to reset your mind, and come back to the work with a fresh perspective. Lorraine recommended working for 10 minutes solid, without doing anything else, then checking e-mails or whatever, and repeat. </li>
</ul>
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Final chunk I promise. We were asked to rewrite our target audience based on some of the questions we've already thought about. It might not change a huge amount, some small extra adjectives perhaps to extend the definition of who we're catering for.</div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Eighteen to fifty year old males, upper middle class background, average earners. Often with families with children. Above all, with a large interest in cars, speed and engineering. They would love to own an Aston Martin, or a similar grand-tourer/super-car, however they are unable to afford one. This event is their gateway to exploring and engaging their childhood dream, of driving and seeing these cars.</blockquote>
Based on the tightening of our audience, I thought I should rewrite the desired collateral I would like to produce, and define how the audience would engage with it. Below is a mind map of various areas I would like to explore. Obviously, due to the time constraints which have been placed upon us, I will be unable to create all of the collateral, but I would like to create at least 80% of it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UyA3WFJEAxU/U2DW7kPBxDI/AAAAAAAAE9I/Z0ox7Y3OG9Y/s1600/IMG_0475.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UyA3WFJEAxU/U2DW7kPBxDI/AAAAAAAAE9I/Z0ox7Y3OG9Y/s1600/IMG_0475.JPG" height="283" width="400" /></a></div>

I've begun to address this brief the traditional way, mapping out some initial ideas, which I will then go onto research in depth. I'm really not sure which direction I want to go in for this product. I know the underline themes which I want to undertake, that of consumerism, marketing something completely pointless by tapping into the hidden instinctual desires of the human, all that Sigmund Freud stuff. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w5nqcwboqy0/U2Ac0NKTCMI/AAAAAAAAE8g/j6ATkeKnRvY/s1600/IMG_0471.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w5nqcwboqy0/U2Ac0NKTCMI/AAAAAAAAE8g/j6ATkeKnRvY/s1600/IMG_0471.JPG" height="283" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I began to flesh out the ideas of marketing the hidden needs, and methods of doing so. Throughout my essay for studio brief 1, I pulled the focus of the study to the male image, or the envy of, to promote and sell a product. Such as a watch or even a fragrance. The model is usually appealing to women, which men are able to recognise, something they want to achieve themselves, as part of the hidden instinctual desire for sex. Thinking back to a documentary I saw recently,<b> 'Bigger, Stronger, Faster', </b>which follows Chris Bell, who talks about steroids in sport. A segment in the documentary exposes a fitness model, who promoted a product he used, and attributed his physique to the product. Whereas, he has actually been taking anabolic steroids and growth hormones, the real reason for his unique physique. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thinking this, I thought I could market a product using a body builder who attributes his success to a product, which no one needs. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EedZFlzbmoY/U2AczdsiJxI/AAAAAAAAE8Y/M_9XsKZqRAg/s1600/IMG_0472.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EedZFlzbmoY/U2AczdsiJxI/AAAAAAAAE8Y/M_9XsKZqRAg/s1600/IMG_0472.JPG" height="283" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

As part of my research for studio brief 2, I'm looking in to similar events, to see what's already been done, if it's good, if it's bad, what works, and what doesn't. So I'll know what I should apply to my own branding and identity within this project, if appropriate and relevant to my audience. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm looking at Car Fest, hosted my BBC Radio 2 DJ, Chris Evans. I was able to attend the 2013 North Festival, which was held at Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.carfest.org/g/2014/pb_32/header_main.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.carfest.org/g/2014/pb_32/header_main.png" height="130" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The carfest logo, it's the same every year, although the date usually changes on it. The style of illustration used really reflects what the business is about, as it is for Children in Need, so the illustrative style works for the cause, as well as the target audience for the attendance, which is families. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB9TncizCpmyHoGuNtYNnesyy36SzZuUOnLmmbXDLDTXWJOAbLCDfOkofTXmvC9B7aFiIheUT_MZFqSqJCOk4E7pKTDBnoFFSC-OLFSU27XvljEyeDKrNm-_r7lLlOGXNlKxXJj3CrDV4/s3200/IMG_0098.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB9TncizCpmyHoGuNtYNnesyy36SzZuUOnLmmbXDLDTXWJOAbLCDfOkofTXmvC9B7aFiIheUT_MZFqSqJCOk4E7pKTDBnoFFSC-OLFSU27XvljEyeDKrNm-_r7lLlOGXNlKxXJj3CrDV4/s3200/IMG_0098.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As part of Car Fest's branding and collateral, they produced wrist bands. The wristband shown is the weekend wristband. It's crafted from a plastic coated gloss newsprint, which is extremely durable. The day wristbands were a different colour, and made from card, rather than plastic coated newsprint, as they didn't need to be as durable. Since the event doesn't really have a set colour scheme, other than vibrant colours, so they're able to use a large range of colours to separate the wrist bands, depending on their meaning. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/944x531_b/p01dnvx9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/944x531_b/p01dnvx9.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The signage around the event also follows this trend, sporting bright colours and a fairly relaxed hand-written style font. The colours used within this are used across the band and within the logo. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The cars featured at car fest were lined up and displayed, a huge number of car manufacturers brought dozens of cars.</div>
